Designed for a young couple seeking a respite from the rigours of urban life, this 900 square foot post and beam cabin along the Damariscotta River is heated with wood, energized by propane and given water by a gravity fed hydraulic system.

The remote location of the construction site, a quarter mile off the main road and accessed only by a 19th century logging path, limited the potential for access of public resources. Trapezoidal concrete piers are anchored in the granite outcropping on which the house sits. Generous glazing at the southern elevation allows for natural light to fill the house for most of the day.
